How to define a person’s character from the planetary positions

Above is a summary of the characteristics attributed those born under the period of time when the Sun is in the section of the zodiacal sky known as ...Virgo. To understand a person’s character a start has to be made somewhere. The easiest way is to divide the possibilities into smaller subdivisions. In Astrology this is determined by dividing the time the Earth takes to go around the Sun (a year) into twelve parts - these are the groups we call sunsigns.

Over the years the 12 sunsign divisions have gained, what appears to be, a precise edge to the group divisions. Above you will see that I start with a specific date ... (23 August) and finish with a specific date ...... (22 September), but the reality is not so clearly defined. The average time taken for the Sun to be seen in the same part of the sky from one time to the next, is known as 1 year, but it is only that, an average time. The rest of the planets can have an effect on the movement of the Earth, slowing it down or speeding it up, ever so slightly, and this can result in a slight variation in the overall time taken to reach the same point - as much as 1 day, possibly even 2 days, earlier or later than the average time of 1 year. If you were born within two days of the Sun changing sign, it is important for you to ascertain precisely which sign you were born in, and for that it is important for the astrologer to know the year in which you were born. For the those born on days within the rest of the sunsign period the interpretation should apply, as long as there aren’t any other strong influences interfering with your expression through your sunsign.

For most of you, Virgo is a sign for which work is the hub of your universe. Through Mercury, Virgoans seek knowledge as their means of controlling matter, via the mind. By seeking this knowledge Virgoans soon learn that the mind of a man is a good servant, i.e. helper, but a bad master, especially when the mind tries to take over from the spirit. Eventually, all Virgoans must learn that the body serves the mind, and that the mind serves the spirit.

To achieve this Virgoans are meticulous in their work, paying great attention to detail and working carefully and efficiently, bringing order out of confusion. Virgoans will help anyone find employment, but will not help someone who gets into trouble because they refuse to work. To be a conscientious efficient worker is the most honourable thing in the world.

You would think this attitude would make Virgoans easy prey for the lazy employer, but you would be mistaken. If anyone makes demands that are excessive or unreasonable a Virgoan can say no with conviction. At its best this sign can bring efficiency and a brilliant performance of duty, but at its worst, it brings a narrow blinkered outlook on life, resulting in them able to talk about nothing else but work or subjects related to it.

Due to the tendency to analyse even the detail of a situation, no matter how small, this microscopic analysis can sometimes result in the Virgoan becoming engrossed with trivialities and blind to the wider picture. One thing Virgoans must learn is to discriminate between the trivial and the essential.Once they succeed in this they become great scholars, constructive critics, and excellent editors.

It is essential that a Virgoan does not mistake brilliant intellectualism for heavenly wisdom. They must learn to be absolutely dispassionate in evaluating their own performance and the performance of others.

Virgo is the sign of health, and those born under it must learn not to exhaust themselves by working too hard and neglecting their bodies. Worrying, fretting, allowing the body to become stressed, all contributes to poor health, and it is Virgoans who are most at risk of bringing this about. Hypochondria amongst those of this sign are not unknown, yet it is the Virgoans who, once they have developed self-discipline, have a marvellous physical resistance to disease, and can often become effective healing agents for those who are sick.

Because Virgo is an Earth sign those born under this sign tend to admire material progress. They like good food, and are fond of comfort and good clothes. They are often fashion trendsetters, and will look carefully at the labels to ensure the clothes have been properly made and are of good quality. No shoddy workmanship for them!

Regarding finances, it is difficult for Virgos to accumulate large sums of money because they invariably have excessive expenditure. They may well have “saving spress” but they rarely last for long.

They love the sound of music, and appreciate eloquent way in which words are put together in poetry and literature.

It is said that many Virgoans are indifferent to love adventures and often remain voluntarily unmarried, because no-one measures up to their standards of perfection. If this were true no Virgoan would become a parent, so it is obvious this is a falsehood, yet it has an element of truth within it. For those who are very typical of their sunsign, it could be that they find it difficult to accept someone who falls short of their standards, and if they have a very fulfilling career they may decide not to marry, and maintain their independence. When they do marry, female Virgoans often place themselves at the head of the family, and govern everyone around, taking the total responsibility for their homes and families.
