How to define a person’s character from the planetary positions

Above is a summary of the characteristics attributed those born under the period of time when the Sun is in the section of the zodiacal sky known as ...Sagittarius. To understand a person’s character a start has to be made somewhere. The easiest way is to divide the possibilities into smaller subdivisions. In Astrology this is determined by dividing the time the Earth takes to go around the Sun (a year) into twelve parts - these are the groups we call sunsigns.

Over the years the 12 sunsign divisions have gained, what appears to be, a precise edge to the group divisions. Above you will see that I start with a specific date ... (22 November) and finish with a specific date ...... (21 December), but the reality is not so clearly defined. The average time taken for the Sun to be seen in the same part of the sky from one time to the next, is known as 1 year, but it is only that, an average time. The rest of the planets can have an effect on the movement of the Earth, slowing it down or speeding it up, ever so slightly, and this can result in a slight variation in the overall time taken to reach the same point - as much as 1 day, possibly even 2 days, earlier or later than the average time of 1 year. If you were born within two days of the Sun changing sign, it is important for you to ascertain precisely which sign you were born in, and for that it is important for the astrologer to know the year in which you were born. For the those born on days within the rest of the sunsign period the interpretation should apply, as long as there aren’t any other strong influences interfering with your expression through your sunsign.

For most of you, Sagittarius is a sign of honesty and straightforwardness, symbolised by the arrow flying swiftly to its goal. Sagittarians deeply love liberty and freedom. Energetic and naturally outgoing in attitude, they achieve goals through the power of positive thinking. Benificent Jupiter rules this sign and preserves Sagittarians, giving help when they need it, even if it is at the last moment.

Sagittarians are at home with abstract ideas, principles and belief, even if they are not particularly well educated. This is because they are naturally serious thinkers who are concerned for the wellbeing of society as a whole as well as their own lives. Sagittarians place spiritual law and ethics above personality. It is possible that in their religious zeal they may overlook the personal side of life. They are honest, just and generous seeking the approval and harmony of the society in which they live.

If the Sun or the sign is badly aspected these Sagittarians may show signs of being narrow-minded and bigoted, especially if the social standards they subscribe to are limited ones. Idealism is strongly marked in those of this sign, but the less evolved people with this trait will have a tendency to become religious fanatics and blind adherants to established philosophies and dogmas. They need to learn to advance beyond the lowest common denominator of thinking amongst the religious, social and philosophical groups to which they belong.

You can’t say that a Sagittarian is subtle, for they often jump to conclusions without taking all the factors into consideration, but they are straightforward in their attitude and their actions are unimpeachable. Anyone living or working with a Sagittarian will have to adopt a thick skin for they will hear many straight forthright often undiluted truths. It is also recognised that Sagittarians have the ability to “see” the future by understanding current trends of thought and sometimes their insights border on prophecy.

Sagittarians expand into unexpected realms because they desire to know, to experience, to have experience through adventure. They are prepared to travel far and fast, either geographically, or in thought, or even both. They are often risk-takers where speed is concerned, pushing the vehicle they are driving to its limits. They like acknowledgement of the work they have done, and through successful use of their creative urge, they are able to expand their egos.

You will find the majority of Sagittarian women do not enjoy domestic tasks, and tend to highly independent, yet they are charming and agreeable companions.
